Science and Technology University School of Medicine | Chen Guoji: Creating Synergistic Effects with Beidu Education City to Strengthen Greater Bay Area Connections
Financial Secretary Paul Chan attended the opening ceremony of the HKUST anniversary and delivered a speech, stating that the HKUST School of Medicine will enroll its first students in the 2028-2029 academic year. The plan is to build an integrated medical, educational, and research hospital in the Niu Tan Wai new district within the Northern Metropolis, creating synergy with the Hong Kong Science Park and the North District Education City, and strengthening connections with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Paul Chan said that HKUST has made progress in artificial intelligence, data science, life and health sciences, advanced materials, and sustainable energy, and its development direction aligns with the “Fifteen Five-Year Plan” strategic goals.
Yip Yuk-lin: Hoping to Collaborate with the Government on North District Development
HKUST President Yip Yuk-lin expressed gratitude for the government’s trust and approval in establishing the new School of Medicine. She values the long-term partnership with the government and looks forward to continued close cooperation in planning the future development of the Northern Metropolis, contributing to Hong Kong’s economic growth and innovation and technology development.
She also mentioned that in response to the increasing medical needs of Hong Kong and surrounding areas, HKUST will leverage its unique strengths in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary research to lead the transformation of healthcare and medical education.
