Vitalik Buterin detailed the 2021 disposition of massive "meme coin" SHIB, which included 5 trillion SHIB tokens gifted to him by the token's anonymous creator. He clarified that he never intended to speculate by holding these tokens, and instead liquidated a portion to raise approximately $500 million for charitable organizations including (Crypto Relief) and the (Future of Life Institute), far exceeding the initial goal of $10 million to $25 million. Buterin also burned approximately 410 trillion SHIB to eliminate market pressure and distance himself from the project.
