Many overseas Chinese (ordinary people) often have complex psychological states. On one hand, they hope the domestic situation deteriorates, which can prove the correctness of their choice to leave their hometown. On the other hand, they don't want their motherland to become too poor, and even hope certain aspects improve continuously. After all, people living abroad fear being looked down upon by locals. It's like saying you grew up in a county town when you're in Beijing or Shanghai—there's always a bit of inferiority complex, especially when you haven't yet established roots locally and are still struggling as a migrant.
