Sailing Forward to Launch a New Chapter, Steadfast Action Toward the Future—Scan of the Third "Representative Corridor" at the Fourth Session of the 14th National People's Congress
Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 12 — Title: Setting Sail on a New Journey with Determination and Practical Action — A Review of the Third “Deputy Passage” at the 14th National People’s Congress
Xinhua reporters Wu Yu, Wang Sibei, Zhang Xiaojie
Around 2 p.m. on March 12, the third “Deputy Passage” session of the 14th National People’s Congress was held in the north side of the central hall of the Great Hall of the People. Six NPC deputies shared grassroots stories, showcased their dedication, and united efforts to advance.
“Hainan’s beauty is half in the blue sea and sky, and half in the tropical rainforests.” The first to appear was Lu Yan, Deputy County Mayor of Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County, Hainan Province, who shared stories about protecting the ecological foundation of her beautiful hometown.
During this year’s Spring Festival holiday, Baoting County attracted many tourists with its unique and beautiful ecological environment. “Loving the mountains and water, protecting the water.” She explained that a good ecology is a “golden rice bowl.” Local residents developed under-forest economy, rainforest hot springs for health, and rainforest hiking. “With this shared protection, we have a solid ecological foundation.”
Today, the local forest coverage rate remains above 77%, and the air quality excellent rate has been over 99% year-round. “In my future duties, I will continue to be a guardian and guide of ecology, working with local residents to protect these mountains, seas, and rainforests,” said Lu Yan.
Wang Guodong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huzhu Tu Autonomous County, Haidong City, Qinghai Province, shared new developments and changes in Banyan Village.
“‘Banyan’ means ‘happiness and prosperity’ in the Tu language. But in the past, it was very poor, with difficulties in transportation, water, medical care, and schooling,” Wang said. In 2016, Banyan Village implemented centralized relocation for poverty alleviation, supported by party and national policies, developing specialty industries. Villagers began planting Changbai scallions, opening agritainment businesses, and their paths to prosperity widened.
In recent years, the local government has tapped into clean energy potential, building centralized photovoltaic power stations in new villages, forming an integrated “source-grid-storage” microgrid. “Villagers can earn 2,500 yuan annually from surplus solar power dividends. Every household now has natural gas and electric heating, making life more convenient,” he said.
“‘Banyan’ has become a ‘golden signboard’ for rural revitalization in Qinghai, a model for nationwide poverty alleviation, and a true symbol of ‘happiness and prosperity,’” Wang said proudly.
Similarly witnessing the transformation of mountain villages is Xia Hua, Chairman of Yiwon Group. Over 20 years ago, she visited a minority village in Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou, and was deeply impressed by the exquisite embroidery skills of local women. Since then, she has been involved in training local embroiderers, exploring a path of inheritance and innovation in handicrafts to support rural revitalization.
“More embroidery women now have the opportunity to stay at home with their children, embroider flowers, and ‘support themselves and enrich their families,’” Xia said. From embroidered insoles and wedding dresses to fashionable clothing, branded bags, and handmade dolls, their lives have improved significantly.
Xia also proposed suggestions on digital protection and innovative application of Chinese ethnic patterns. She said she will strive to better serve as a deputy, transforming exquisite “fingertip skills” into vibrant “fingertip industries,” promoting deep integration of culture and industry, and supporting high-quality regional economic development.
Rural revitalization accelerates through practical efforts, and Chinese manufacturing gains confidence through innovation.
“Now, products from over 100 countries and regions worldwide are using our equipment. This is a ‘trust vote’ from the market for Chinese manufacturing,” said Li Gang, engineer at Tianjin Steel Pipe Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
“We have tackled many ‘hard bones’ in major national projects,” he added. For example, the deep-sea oil and gas pipeline adopted now is independently produced, with costs reduced to 60% of foreign products, delivery times halved, directly lowering China’s oil and gas pipeline import rate from 90% to below 30%. Breakthroughs in these “bottleneck” fields provide solid support for our energy security strategy.
“Going forward, we will continue to strengthen technological innovation, forging the ‘steel backbone’ of a major power with the steel pipes we produce,” Li said firmly.
Lu Xiaolin, Chairman of Bofa Kang’an Holding Group Co., Ltd., whose company has participated in multiple overseas projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, shared unforgettable experiences from building large power stations in Southeast Asia.
To successfully install equipment like 300-ton generators, repeated surveys and solutions to transportation challenges were undertaken; language barriers and cultural differences among Chinese and foreign engineers were addressed through bilingual coordination meetings and cultural exchanges, strengthening technical cooperation… Ultimately, the power station was completed and connected to the grid, with many local employees proudly calling it a “energy miracle.”
“Local media reported that Chinese friends come not only with technology and equipment but also with a relay of friendship,” said Lu. She hopes that through advancing projects, more Chinese equipment will go abroad, making the Chinese brand shine even brighter.
Some are full of the pioneering spirit of “going overseas,” while others are resilient in innovation.
Over nearly 30 years, Jia Shaoqian, Chairman of Hisense Group, has witnessed China’s manufacturing leap from following and catching up to leading in some fields. He deeply understands that all this is inseparable from “innovation.”
He explained that Hisense was the first in the world to launch 3D color control display technology, achieving mass production more than a year ahead of foreign competitors. At Hisense’s flagship central air conditioning factory, deep application of intelligent technology has sped up product development by 37%, improved production efficiency by 49%, reduced production costs by 35%, and lowered unit energy consumption by 13%. In Hisense’s first global TV industry lighthouse factory, AI enables the customized production of a large-screen TV every 20 seconds.
Jia said, “In the future, Hisense will actively play its role as a leader in technological innovation, bridging the ‘last mile’ from ‘laboratory’ to ‘production line,’ turning more good results and ideas from labs into quality products for ordinary people.”
The heartfelt stories of each delegate converge into a vigorous atmosphere of progress in the new era, inspiring people to continue striving and jointly create a better future.
