Gurman: Liquid Glass Design Won't Get Major Updates in Apple iOS 27, macOS 27
IT Home, March 15 — According to the latest news, Apple’s new Liquid Glass interface introduced in iOS 26, macOS Tahoe, and other recent software platforms will become a long-term design direction.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman stated in today’s Power On newsletter that the latest internal versions of iOS 27 and macOS 27 have not made major changes to the Liquid Glass design. He also mentioned that Apple’s new software design chief, Steve Lemay, is the core advocate of the Liquid Glass interface and has been deeply involved in its development.
Lemay joined Apple in 1999, taking over from Alan Dye, who left at the end of last year. After his departure, Dye was responsible for the design work at Meta Reality Labs.
Apple is more likely to focus on gradually optimizing the Liquid Glass interface, similar to the approach taken with iOS 7: abandoning skeuomorphic design in favor of a flat style, and continuously refining it over the years.
IT Home notes that Apple has already provided several Liquid Glass customization options for iPhone users through software updates:
According to Gurman, Apple initially planned to include a global Liquid Glass adjustment slider in iOS 26, but encountered engineering difficulties when trying to implement it system-wide. However, he indicated that Apple may redesign this feature and is expected to enable a global adjustment slider in iOS 27.
