On March 14, the 2026 Shanghai Global Investment Promotion Conference and “Invest in Shanghai” Week officially opened at the Shanghai Oriental Hub International Business Cooperation Zone. Nearly 500 well-known domestic and international companies were invited to participate.

As one of the important series of events, the Global Industry M&A Summit hosted by Guotai Haitong was held concurrently. The summit focused on macroeconomic trends and industry integration opportunities, bringing together nearly 200 senior executives from listed companies, investment institution leaders, and industry experts. Through keynote speeches, entrepreneur sharing sessions, and two high-profile roundtable forums, the event explored the core value and practical pathways of mergers and acquisitions in hard-tech fields such as biomedicine and semiconductors. Li Junjie, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Guotai Haitong, and Cheng Peng, Secretary of the Shanghai Economic and Information Work Party Committee, attended the conference and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Li Junjie stated that the Global Investment Promotion Conference is an important platform for global investors to invest in Shanghai and China. Industry mergers and acquisitions, as one of the core investment methods, have also become an important means for enterprises to enhance their market competitiveness. Cheng Peng expressed that industry mergers and acquisitions are key to optimizing resource allocation and strengthening industrial chains. Shanghai will focus on three major directions to create a high-quality M&A environment: First, solidify the industrial foundation by leveraging the “2+3+6+6” modern industrial system and resources from over 3 million enterprises to form a supply system of high-quality targets across multiple tracks and tiers; second, strengthen service guarantees by promoting policies that allow immediate benefits without application, deepening government-enterprise communication, and reducing operating costs for tech startups to facilitate the implementation of M&A projects; third, improve the capital ecosystem by linking over 50 billion yuan in state-owned capital M&A funds, innovating financial products, and building a comprehensive “fund + bank + service + platform” four-in-one service system. Shanghai invites global entrepreneurs and investors to use M&A as a bridge and capital as wings to share development opportunities and co-win the future of the industry.

Additionally, the summit included in-depth discussions on macroeconomic and industry opportunities. Guotai Haitong shared outlooks for the global and Chinese capital markets in 2026 and the current role of M&A funds. Zhu Yi, Chairman of Baili Tianheng, and Dai Weimin, Chairman and President of Chipsee, shared practical experiences on “international breakthroughs” and “industry chain integration opportunities,” respectively. Two high-profile roundtable forums brought the event to a climax, with guests focusing on biomedicine and semiconductors, discussing core topics such as technological valuation, cross-border collaboration, and post-investment integration, providing a comprehensive view from macro trend analysis to micro-industry implementation of M&A.
