Bank of China Shanghai Branch: Financial Consumer Protection in Action, Heartwarming Services Benefiting People's Livelihood
Originally from: Xinhua Finance
On the occasion of International Consumer Rights Day “3.15,” Bank of China Shanghai Branch upholds the philosophy of “Finance for the People, Education First, Rights-Based,” leveraging digital finance to enhance service upgrades. Financial knowledge, safety tips, and warm-hearted services are precisely delivered to various consumers. With professional responsibility, the bank fulfills its financial mission and conveys the warmth of people’s livelihood through sincere service.
Micro Salon in the Lobby: Digital Consumer Protection Integrated into Daily Life
Bank of China Shanghai Branch uses its branch lobby as the main platform to create a “convenient financial service station” at the doorstep. Regular “micro salons” on financial knowledge turn waiting time into anti-fraud “charging” moments. Staff act as dedicated educators, focusing on hot topics like safe card use, personal information protection, and rational investing. They combine digital financial service cases with real-life examples, using engaging formats such as case analysis, interactive Q&A, and practical demonstrations to meet the needs of different customer groups, including seniors, youth, and new residents.
For elderly customers visiting the branch, staff provide hands-on teaching to help them use the elderly-friendly functions of mobile banking, bridging the “digital divide.” For young customers, the focus is on identifying online financial marketing tricks, answering questions, and ensuring financial knowledge is not only understandable but also usable and memorable.
Services Enter Communities: Warm Care Benefits Thousands of Families
“Such activities are very practical! I used to think financial knowledge was ‘high above,’ but now I realize it’s closely related to our daily lives.” This heartfelt praise from a resident of Pudong New Area vividly reflects the community consumer protection services of Bank of China Shanghai Branch. Recently, Minsheng Road Branch visited the neighborhood, offering financial safety and digital wealth management knowledge through “stalls + interactive explanations” right at residents’ doorsteps.
The Shanghai Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone Branch incorporated anti-fraud publicity into warm community activities like lantern riddles and dumpling making, using financial warmth to bridge the gap with consumers. For rural seniors, staff distributed illustrated brochures and explained cases in dialect and plain language, exposing scams like online fraud and illegal proxy withdrawals, repeatedly reminding “do not trust, do not reveal, do not transfer.” They also helped install the “National Anti-Fraud Center” app, spreading care while strengthening grassroots financial security.
Joint Efforts for Growth: Financial Knowledge Supports Development
Bank of China Shanghai Branch extends its financial consumer protection education to students of all ages, promoting targeted, engaging financial knowledge. In partnership with schools and social organizations, they jointly safeguard students’ financial security.
Putuo Branch visited East China Normal University, designing bilingual financial consumer protection classes tailored for international exchange students, with “anti-fraud protection” as the core theme. The activities used case simulations and bilingual anti-fraud manuals, analyzing common cross-border scams like fake embassy calls, tuition phishing links, and overseas card theft. They explained practical tips on personal information protection and online risk recognition, helping international students quickly learn scam prevention and build a cross-border financial “protective net” on campus.
In Jiading District’s Xu Xing Town, a volunteer-led financial class attracted children with stories about the “mysteries of money.” Recently, Jiading Branch formed multiple volunteer teams to visit local schools, using lively lessons on “the secrets of currency” to tell stories, promote financial knowledge, and teach counterfeit detection techniques like “look, touch, listen, test,” helping children develop their first “wealth” awareness and improve financial literacy.
Bank-Enterprise Collaboration: Precise Protection Builds Defense Lines
Bank of China Shanghai Branch actively collaborates with enterprises to provide customized financial knowledge to different workplace groups, enhancing their risk prevention capabilities.
The branch’s business department visited partner trading companies to analyze recent common online financial scams and promote personal information protection and rational rights protection. Songjiang Branch engaged with labor companies, focusing on preventing illegal fundraising and over-collecting personal data, helping workers recognize various “financial vests” scams, avoid traps, and receive high praise from on-site staff.
Highlighting Cross-Border Services: Dedicated Support for All
Relying on Shanghai’s development as an international consumer center, Bank of China Shanghai Branch leverages its cross-border expertise to continuously upgrade financial services for foreigners in China, creating a convenient and secure cross-border financial environment through digital empowerment and offline support.
Online, the “Come to China” app supports registration with overseas phone numbers and emails, offering services in seven languages and login-free options, with English navigation, phone SIM card, and account opening online booking. Offline, services include 24/7 foreign currency exchange and small change exchange at Pudong Airport; 256 branches across the city handle 33 types of foreign currency cash exchange; 1,600 registered tax refund merchants support instant “buy and refund” transactions. Additionally, over 4,600 merchants accept foreign cards, and more than 10,000 terminals support multiple payment methods including foreign cards, digital RMB, and QR codes. These efforts comprehensively address payment, exchange, and tax refund issues for foreigners in Shanghai, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience.
Financial consumer protection is not just on “3.15” but a daily commitment. Bank of China Shanghai Branch will continue to uphold its responsibility for financial consumer protection, deepening services in branches, communities, campuses, and enterprises. They will keep enriching educational formats, expanding service channels, and improving service quality, providing comprehensive, routine financial safeguarding to protect every consumer’s rights and contribute to a safe, healthy, and harmonious financial environment.
