Apple announced the latest App Store data for iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 systems on February 14, showing how many iPhones and iPads are currently running these versions.

Note from IT Home: The latest data covers iPhone and iPad devices that made transactions on the App Store up to February 12, 2026.

From the iPhone side, 74% of iPhones released in the past four years have upgraded to iOS 26; when considering all iPhone devices, 66% are running iOS 26.

On the iPad side, 66% of iPads released in the past four years are running iPadOS 26; when considering all iPads, 57% have upgraded to iPadOS 26.

In comparison, Apple previously announced in January 2025 that 76% of iPhones released in the past four years were running iOS 18, and 68% of all iPhones were running iOS 18; for iPads, 63% of those released in the past four years were running iPadOS 18, and 53% of all iPads were running iPadOS 18.

On the surface, the adoption rates of iOS 26 and iOS 18 are similar, but this difference is related to the timing of the data release. The data for iOS 26 was collected about 150 days after the system’s official release, while the iOS 18 data was collected approximately 127 days after its release. In other words, iOS 26 has about three more weeks of available upgrade time compared to iOS 18.

It appears that the upgrade speed for iOS 26 is indeed slower than that of iOS 18, but not as significantly as some early unofficial estimates claimed. The specific reasons for the slower upgrade rate are currently unclear, but some users may have refused to upgrade due to early negative feedback about iOS 26.
