Full Text! Iran's New Supreme Leader Issues First Statement
► Article Observer Network Chen Sijia
On March 12 local time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered his first speech since taking office.
Iran’s Mehr News Agency published the full transcript of Khamenei’s speech. In his address, he called on the Iranian people to unite, emphasizing that Iran should continue to “close” the Strait of Hormuz to pressure Iran’s enemies. He vowed to avenge the martyrs, stated that Iran would “claim compensation” from the US and Israel, and urged neighboring countries to shut down all US military bases in the Middle East.
Khamenei first expressed condolences for the passing of his predecessor, Ali Khamenei, praising his contributions to Iran and acknowledging the heavy responsibility of his position. He said, “I was fortunate to view his body after his death; what I saw was an indomitable towering mountain, and what I heard was the sound of his intact fist clenched tightly.”
He pointed out that a major tradition of Iran’s leadership is relying on the strength of the Iranian people, “It is the people who lead the country and ensure its power and authority.”
Khamenei emphasized that during current difficulties and crises, it is essential to keep all sectors and the entire population of Iran united. He called on Iranian society to temporarily set aside differences and disputes, continue participating in various fields, and strengthen social mutual aid. He encouraged Iranians to actively participate in the upcoming “Jerusalem Day” activities to “strike the enemy’s spirit.”

Regarding the ongoing military conflict, Khamenei praised the performance of the Iranian military: “I want to thank the warriors who have performed excellently during times of pressure and attack on our country.” He stressed that Iran should continue to use the “lever” of closing the Strait of Hormuz to pressure its enemies.
He also thanked all members of the “Resistance Front,” stating, “We regard the Resistance Front countries as our best friends… As we see, brave and devout Yemen has not given up defending the oppressed people of Gaza; despite many obstacles, Hezbollah in Lebanon continues to support Iran; Iraqi resistance forces also bravely maintain the same stance.”
He expressed condolences to the families of all Iranian martyrs and vowed revenge. He said, “I assure everyone that we will never give up avenging the blood of the martyrs. Our planned revenge is not only for the fallen leaders but for every citizen killed by the enemy, each case requiring
