Peru Enters 60-Day State of Emergency in Multiple Areas Due to Heavy Rains

Peru government announced on March 12th that 283 districts and cities nationwide have entered a 60-day state of emergency to respond to the impacts of heavy rains. The highest government decree states that to address the risks brought by ongoing heavy rainfall and to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property, multiple provinces including Ancash, Arequipa, and La Libertad will enter a 60-day state of emergency. During this period, the government will take necessary measures to respond to the effects of heavy rains and carry out disaster emergency response and post-disaster recovery work. Recently, many areas in Peru have experienced continuous heavy rainfall, with some regions suffering from floods and mudslides. The government has activated emergency mechanisms in multiple areas.
