Coinbase Executive Denies Ever Lobbying Against BTC Small Transaction Tax Exemption
Deep Tide TechFlow News, on March 13, according to Cointelegraph, several Coinbase executives publicly denied that the exchange lobbied against tax exemptions for small BTC transactions. Previously, some BTC advocates accused Coinbase on social media of telling U.S. lawmakers that BTC should not receive such exemptions because it is not widely used for payment scenarios.
In response, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that the allegations are “completely false” and that he has been actively lobbying for the implementation of small BTC tax exemption policies. Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal and Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad also issued statements denying the accusations.
Currently, the proposed CLARITY Act in U.S. legislation only limits tax exemptions to stablecoins pegged to the dollar and does not include BTC transactions. According to Conner Brown, Managing Director of the Bitcoin Policy Institute, the small BTC exemption clause has not been included in the bill.
