(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) ** Jammu-** National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary escaped unhurt in a gunman attack outside a wedding hall on the outskirts of Jammu Wednesday night, officials said.

The suspect, Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi, was subdued by security guards and taken away for questioning, they added.

The incident occurred at the upscale Greater Kailash neighborhood in Jammu when Abdullah and the deputy chief minister were leaving a wedding celebration, officials said.

They stated the suspect, who is in his 70s, was waiting outside the venue and attempted to shoot at Abdullah. However, two police officers—a police inspector and a sub-inspector—overpowered him, but he still managed to fire one shot before being disarmed and detained.

No injuries were reported from the gunfire, officials said, adding that Jamwal was reportedly intoxicated.
