On January 7, U.S. President Donald Trump directed the U.S. government to withdraw from 66 international organizations and treaties. This includes the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The move clearly demonstrates the U.S. stance of diverging from an international cooperation framework based on multilateralism.

The Trump administration had previously ignored international law by conducting military operations in Venezuela to secure oil supplies, signaling a policy shift toward pursuing “order through strength.”

On January 7, Trump signed a memorandum instructing government agencies to initiate the process of withdrawing from 31 United Nations agencies and related treaties, as well as 35 other international organizations.
