Finextra partners with PIMFA WealthTech and Morningstar on AI Tech Sprint

On 22 April 2026, PIMFA WealthTech, Morningstar and Finextra will host a new AI Tech Sprint that invites fintech providers to demonstrate how their technology solution leverages AI to create measurable business impact and improve problem solving.

The selected winner will present their technology to an audience of industry peers and decision makers at the Morningstar Investment Conference UK on 7 May 2026. These two opportunities will allow organisations to examine AI in wealth and advice, particularly the journey from experimentation to ROI. The question of how firms can turn their application of AI into measurable business impact will be answered by focusing on two key areas.

Firstly, fintech firms will present solutions that enhance productivity within wealth management and the broader financial services industry. This includes demonstrating client centric AI, portfolio performance and risk management, advisor empowerment, and operational efficiency. Secondly, companies participating in the Tech Sprint will explore innovations that push beyond basic automation, advice quality, competence testing and T&C enhancement.

Prachi Kodlikeri, chair, PIMFA WealthTech Advisory Group and chief technology officer, LGT Wealth, said: "This initiative challenges fintechs to push the boundaries of what’s possible - encouraging them to experiment boldly, explore high impact AI applications and solutions that have the potential to fundamentally elevate the way our industry serves clients. We want participants to go beyond incremental improvements and instead consider how advanced technologies can reshape advice journeys, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen regulatory confidence, and create more personalised, intuitive client experiences.

"I am genuinely excited to see the creativity, technical excellence and fresh thinking this challenge will inspire. The ideas generated through this Tech Sprint will not only showcase the talent within our ecosystem but also play an important role in shaping the sector’s collective understanding of where AI can make the greatest difference. I look forward to sharing the insights, innovations and real world applications that emerge with the wider community, and to demonstrating how collaborative experimentation can accelerate meaningful progress across the wealth management and advice profession.”

Steve Ellis, CEO, Finextra, added: "Finextra has advocated for and promoted innovation in wealth and banking for over twenty years, so it’s great to partner with PIMFA and Morningstar on this new initiative. Looking forward to seeing how smart minds and agile technology can be applied to solve the challenges of players in wealth management. We’ll be sure to report back on the event and provide a platform for the winners to showcase their solutions to our global audience in wealth, trading and banking.”

If you are a fintech firm and can demonstrate how your product can benefit the industry with the above criteria in mind, please register here to enter the AI Tech Sprint. Entries will close on 16 March at 5pm GMT.
