The 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held a seminar on sustainable development and economic, social, and cultural rights on the 5th. Vice Chair of the Chinese delegation to the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, Li Xiaomei, attended and elaborated on China’s principles and positions.
Li Xiaomei pointed out that China has been doing its best to contribute to global development. China’s proposed Global Development Initiative focuses on development financing as a key area of cooperation. The initiative has mobilized over $23 billion to support development and revitalization in the Global South. China has sponsored resolutions on economic, social, and cultural rights and development promoting human rights at the Human Rights Council, injecting new momentum into mutually beneficial cooperation; actively sharing human rights concepts and practices, and building new platforms for talent training and capacity building in developing countries.
Li Xiaomei stated that the 2026 National Two Sessions are underway, and major goals, indicators, and strategic tasks for the 14th Five-Year Plan have been announced. China is willing to continue providing new opportunities for the Global South through high-quality development, better realizing development rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, and other human rights, ensuring no one is left behind.
