Before the Spring Festival, the domestic service market is extremely tight, with over 3.04 million existing domestic service-related companies.
Chinese New Year is approaching, and the demand for domestic service workers is surging. In major cities across the country, job postings in the domestic service market are everywhere.
Finding replacement maids for the New Year is the hardest; most maids go home for the holiday, and before the festival, they are mostly unavailable to work. The high market demand exceeds supply, pushing up wages. Regular live-in maids earn 200-300 yuan, while replacement maids during the New Year see their wages double, reaching up to 700 yuan.
Young maids often go home at the end of the year, with women aged 50-60 becoming the main force during the holiday. Additionally, many post-90s workers are entering the domestic service industry part-time.
According to Tianyancha Professional Edition, there are currently over 3.044 million domestic service-related companies in China, with active and existing statuses. Among them, approximately 474,000 new companies were registered in 2025. Looking at the trend in company registrations, aside from a dip in 2022, the number of domestic service companies has shown steady growth over the past five years, reaching a peak in 2025.
Regionally, Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province, and Guangdong Province have the highest numbers of domestic service companies, with over 288,000, 271,000, and 200,000 respectively. Following them are Guizhou Province and Zhejiang Province.
