Cambodian police recently dismantled 190 online scam dens and arrested 2,508 people. On February 6, according to the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia and local media reports, the Secretariat of the Cambodia Anti-Cybercrime Committee announced that from January 1, 2026, to early February, provincial and municipal command centers and law enforcement agencies across Cambodia launched a “Thunder Action” campaign, successfully targeting and shutting down 190 suspected online scam dens. These sites are located in Sihanoukville, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Phnom Penh, Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Mondulkiri provinces, including 44 casinos. During the operation, police seized a large number of computers, mobile phones, and SIM cards used as evidence. Data shows that during this special operation, law enforcement arrested a total of 2,508 suspects from seven different nationalities. Authorities not only apprehended several masterminds and their accomplices but also dismantled cross-border scam operations involving impersonation of government officials. Additionally, Cambodia’s law enforcement agencies maintain close cooperation with counterparts in China, the United States, South Korea, and other countries to thoroughly investigate and eliminate transnational criminal networks.
