Microsoft changes mind about tax abatement in La Porte
Microsoft has renegotiated its tax abatement agreement for its data center project in La Porte, Indiana, opting to pay full property taxes, with 15% directed to the school corporation for 20 years. This decision aligns with Microsoft President Brad Smith’s promise to not seek tax abatements and is expected to provide significantly more lucrative revenue for both the city and the school district. Community officials and Mayor Tom Dermody lauded the new agreement as a long-term benefit for local families and students.
