ChainCatcher reports that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated in an interview with the David Senra podcast that the SocialFi feature attempted in the Base App last year “did not really work.” The app was rebranded from Coinbase Wallet and launched in July 2025, aiming to integrate on-chain social, messaging, gaming, and trading features, and introduced the Creator Coin mechanism to tokenize social content, but most of the related tokens failed to maintain their value.

Subsequently, the Base team gradually reduced the SocialFi components, removing the on-chain social features based on Farcaster in early 2026, and shifted the product focus toward trading and self-custody functionalities.
