Beijing, March 3 (Reporter Liao Ruiling) — According to the National Energy Administration, by 2025, China’s primary energy production will reach 5.13 billion tons of standard coal, surpassing the 5 billion-ton mark for the first time. The effectiveness of energy supply security is the best in the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.

Non-fossil fuel power generation continues to grow rapidly, while thermal power generation declines for the first time in ten years. By 2025, the additional power generation from non-fossil fuels nationwide will account for 112.1% of the new electricity consumption across society, marking the fourth time since 2020 that it has exceeded 50%. With rapid growth in wind, solar, and hydro power, thermal power mainly plays a role in basic support and regulation, with total power generation around 6.3 trillion kWh, a decrease of 0.7% year-on-year.

Coal production steadily increases. According to statistics, in 2025, China’s raw coal production will reach 4.85 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%, below the average growth rate of 3 percentage points during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.

Domestic crude oil production continues to grow, and diversification of imports has achieved significant results. During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, crude oil annual production will surpass 200 million tons and remain steadily increasing. In 2025, crude oil production will reach 216 million tons, a 1.5% increase year-on-year. Crude oil imports will total 578 million tons, up 4.4% year-on-year. The structure of crude oil imports continues to optimize, with source countries expanding to about 40.

Domestic natural gas production remains on the rise, with external dependence at a historic low. In 2025, China’s natural gas production will reach 262.06 billion cubic meters, continuing to increase by over 10 billion cubic meters for nine consecutive years. Total natural gas imports will be 176.46 billion cubic meters, down 2.8% year-on-year. The external dependence on natural gas is 40%, the lowest level during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period.
