On February 24th, the world’s largest open-source AI community Hugging Face announced the latest list of open-source large models. Alibaba’s newest open-source multimodal model, Qianwen 3.5 (300109), topped the global charts, becoming the most attention-grabbing open-source large model among AI developers worldwide.

Qianwen 3.5 is Alibaba’s latest generation foundational large model, open-sourced on February 16th, the Lunar New Year’s Eve. It has a total of 397 billion parameters, with only 17 billion activated, and its performance rivals Gemini 3, while the token cost is about 5% of Gemini 3. In the top ten models on the latest Hugging Face leaderboard, eight are from Chinese teams, including Alibaba, Zhipu, MiniMax, and Moonshade.

Since its open-source release, Qianwen 3.5 has quickly gained responses from the global industry chain. International tech giants like NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, and Intel, as well as domestic GPU and platform providers such as Huawei Ascend, Moore Thread, Muxi, and Hygon, have completed adaptation efforts immediately. To date, Alibaba has open-sourced over 400 models covering all sizes and modalities, with over 1 billion downloads worldwide and more than 200,000 derivative models, making it the world’s leading open-source large model.
