Iran's most aggressive retaliation might not be against military bases

It's the five underwater fiber optic cables
These cables carry 37% of the world's internet traffic
They pass through the Red Sea
Through the Strait of Hormuz
Right in the heart of this war zone
In 2024, Houthi forces partially cut them
Causing large-scale network outages overnight in parts of East Africa and Southeast Asia
Now Iran
Has the Revolutionary Guard Navy
Has cyber units capable of attacking infrastructure
And is also aware of the specific routes of these underwater cables
Billions of people worldwide are connected through these channels
India, Pakistan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy
Once these underwater cables are cut, repair usually takes several weeks
So, will Iran go ahead and cut them?
