IT Home, February 6 — YouTube channel host Alva Jonathan released a video yesterday (February 5), demonstrating how to enable XeSS 3 multi-frame generation (MFG) on Intel's entry-level graphics card Arc A380, released four years ago, using a simple "file replacement method."
IT Home note: XeSS 3 is Intel's super-resolution technology, similar to wearing high-tech glasses over nearsighted eyes, which can "brain-boost" low-resolution game images into high-resolution ones.
Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) is a technique that creates frames through algorithms, "making up" new images. The graphics card not only renders the original frames but also calculates and inserts one or more AI-generated frames between two real frames, doubling the frame rate (FPS) and making the visuals smoother.
Enabling this feature is straightforward; users do not need to modify underlying code. They only need to copy and overwrite two specific DLL files from the driver folder Graphics_101.8362 into the Graphics_101.8425 folder.
GPU-Z monitoring data confirmed that after this operation, the Arc A380 control panel successfully unlocked frame generation options of 2x, 3x, and even 4x, and the system correctly recognized and utilized the related hardware acceleration capabilities.
The host tested "Cyberpunk 2077" with a setup of 1080p resolution, low graphics preset, and XeSS 2 "Ultra Quality" mode. Without frame generation enabled, the Arc A380's FPS hovered around 50-60, barely reaching smooth gameplay standards.
However, once XeSS frame generation was enabled, FPS instantly skyrocketed to 130-150. For an entry-level old GPU, this "threefold" performance boost is a significant leap.
The test also found that enabling 4x frame generation caused noticeable input lag and slight ghosting artifacts, affecting the precision of fast-paced actions.
In contrast, 3x frame generation offers a more balanced option: it maintains a stable FPS around 120 and keeps input lag within acceptable limits, greatly enhancing the playability of modern AAA titles on aging hardware.
