The ByteDance chip team has recently secretly expanded its overall size to over 1,000 people.
Sources say that ByteDance’s AI chip team and CPU team have a large number of members, with more than half in the AI chip division, totaling over 500 people, and around 200 in the CPU team. Due to the urgent need for computing power, ByteDance is increasingly focusing on chip business development and has recently undergone a team restructuring. Wang Jian, head of ByteDance’s chip division and technical director of the “Data-Systems” department, is no longer responsible for the chip business. It is understood that Wang Jian joined ByteDance in 2016 and is also one of the leaders of ByteDance’s open-source committee. In ByteDance’s chip team, the heads of the AI chip and DPU teams are Shi Yunfeng, and the head of the CPU team is Yu Hongbin. Both previously reported to Wang Jian. After Wang Jian no longer oversees the chip business, Shi Yunfeng and Yu Hongbin will report directly to Yang Zhenyuan, Vice President of ByteDance and head of Volcano Engine. ByteDance has not responded to this information. (36Kr)
