Scandal Surrounding Bitcoin Origin: How Misinformation Turned into Media Chaos
Recent claims about a connection between Jeffrey Epstein and the origin of Bitcoin have reappeared in the media. PANews clearly pointed out the fact: there is no public evidence supporting this claim. This is a much more dangerous scandal – a scandal of media irrationality and lack of expertise.
The problem lies in how various historical events, personalities, and narratives have become intertwined in the public memory. Bitcoin indeed has a complex history involving numerous institutions, individuals, and contexts. However, this does not mean we can arbitrarily combine unrelated facts and create false causal relationships.
When different events are mixed and their emotional impacts are tangled with expanding legends, what we see today happens: sensationalized and stigmatizing stories that obscure the truly important aspects. Instead of delving into facts, commentators build engaging stories based on associative links.
It is precisely time for the community and the media to focus on one thing: objective factual verification. While Bitcoin's history indeed involves many complex elements that we should understand, spreading unfounded scandals only burdens the discourse and undermines its credibility.
