It happened again. On the evening of January 9th, a residential home in Manosque, France, was robbed by three masked men—who threatened a woman with a gun, stole a USB drive containing her partner's cryptocurrency data, and then fled. Although the victim was unharmed and managed to escape and report the incident within minutes, this event once again rings alarm bells.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, the robbery took place in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. The attackers not only threatened with guns but also physically assaulted the victim. Local police have filed a case, and the investigation is now handled by the local criminal investigation department and the regional police bureau.

This is not an isolated incident. Jameson Lopp, CTO of security company Casa, has compiled data from public databases showing over 70 violent attacks involving cryptocurrencies worldwide. And France? It has already become a major hotspot for such crimes in Europe, with more than 14 related cases.

Why is France particularly prone to such incidents? Cybercrime consultant David Sehyeon provides an answer: France's baseline level of criminal activity is relatively high, combined with the fact that entrepreneurs, traders, and public figures hold conspicuous amounts of cryptocurrency wealth. Plus, the rapid popularization of digital asset knowledge locally. These three factors together create an ideal environment for speculative and organized cryptocurrency crimes. In other words, France is becoming a paradise for cryptocurrency crime.

France has really fallen, this pace is too shocking --- Armed robbery for USB drives, these people are excessively professional --- The key word is just "USB drive," showing how important private key management is --- 14 cases? What about other parts of Europe? Why is France so rampant --- Another armed threat, this is not just a robbery, it's organized crime --- I just want to know how these people know who has coins at home --- No wonder many influencers are talking about cold wallets offline storage, it seems there's a reason --- France's public security is indeed poor, but why focus specifically on cryptocurrency? There's definitely a lot of money to be made --- If this happened in our country, it would have been solved long ago. French police need to step up --- Over 70 violent cases worldwide, just thinking about it is frightening. It's safer to keep my coins on an exchange

ngl this is exactly why i've been telling my students to treat seed phrases like nuclear launch codes... france becoming a crypto crime hotspot isn't really surprising when you think about the fundamentals here

actually the risk-adjusted crime correlation in france is just... statistically significant at this point. three variables compounding? that's literally a textbook case of multiplicative hazard accumulation. 70+ incidents globally but france pulling 14+? ngl the empirical data basically writes itself here

Is France really putting on a show now? Snatching U disks is like grabbing vegetables... But on the other hand, our crypto brothers need to be more cautious; hardware wallets really shouldn't be kept in plain sight.

France is really disappointing... Robbing USB drives at gunpoint, these people must think wallets are gold. Self-custody is indeed the most dangerous, but centralized exchanges are unreliable too. The security situation in Europe is becoming increasingly outrageous; we need to find a way to store hardware wallets cold. There are signs that USB drive robberies are also starting in Asia, everyone be cautious. Why is it always France... Why isn't this happening in neighboring Germany? Honestly, it's because too many people know you have coins; staying low-key is the way to go. Storing money on the chain still requires managing your private keys yourself, which is exhausting.

What is France doing... Is it so straightforward to snatch a USB drive? They should have set up cold wallets for offline storage long ago.

Is France trying to make itself the crime capital of crypto? Only 14 cases and already so high-profile, it's a bit scary.

France has really gone crazy. Why are people so unlow-key about holding coins? Storing wallets on hard drives at home is just outrageous. Cold wallets are the way to go. After this wave of price increases, we need to be more cautious. That's why I never display my balance on-chain. Staying anonymous is the only way to survive. Damn, here we go again. I need to quickly move to a safer place. I've been saying for a long time that hodl shouldn't be showy, but look at the result. France has truly become a crypto crime paradise, it's unbelievable. This is the reality: if you have coins, people will try to steal them. Defensive security is no joke.

France has truly become surreal—USB drives now need bodyguard escorts. --- Start trembling when holding a hardware wallet. --- This is why I go full custody, I'd rather get stabbed in the back by an exchange than get shot execution-style. --- 14 incidents? Could easily become 40 by next year at this rate. --- Should have moved to Switzerland already, France has become a disneyland for crypto criminals.

France is serious about this—are they more concerned with grabbing USB drives than cash? It seems that custody is truly becoming a risk. cryptohodlers in France need to be much more cautious; holding coins is as dangerous as carrying a gun. These days, you don't even dare to leave the house without sleeping in a cold wallet.
