The development enthusiasm for Bitcoin shows a significant uptick in 2025. According to data statistics, the number of emails in the Bitcoin developer mailing list has increased by approximately 60% compared to the previous period, which is a notable improvement.
More importantly, the number of contributors has increased. Currently, 135 different developers have contributed code to the Bitcoin Core codebase, up from 112 in 2024. This number carries an important signal — since peaking in 2018, the number of Bitcoin developers has been declining, but now there is finally a reversal.
What does this indicate? It suggests that more people are paying attention to the technical iteration of Bitcoin Core. Whether it’s security improvements or feature optimizations, more developers need to participate. This resurgence in development activity more or less reflects the entire ecosystem’s re-evaluation of Bitcoin’s technological prospects. As the Bitcoin ecosystem develops in 2025, we have reason to expect more technological innovation and improvements.
