## Samsung's HARMAN Seals €1.5B Deal to Strengthen ADAS Portfolio
Samsung Electronics' HARMAN subsidiary has completed a definitive agreement to acquire ZF Group's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) division for €1.5 billion. The deal marks a significant strategic move in the competitive automotive technology sector, where ADAS solutions—encompassing compute platforms, smart cameras, radars, and software algorithms—have become essential for next-generation vehicle architectures.
### Scaling Automotive Dominance
Since Samsung's 2017 acquisition of HARMAN, the unit's automotive and audio revenue has nearly doubled, growing from $7 billion to over $11 billion. The ZF ADAS acquisition accelerates this expansion, integrating advanced driver assistance capabilities into HARMAN's centralized compute and digital cockpit framework. This positions HARMAN to deliver OEMs with more modular and safety-hardened vehicle platforms.
### Transaction Timeline and Workforce Impact
The transaction is anticipated to close in the second half of 2026. Upon completion, approximately 3,750 ZF employees across Europe, the Americas, and Asia will transition to HARMAN's operations, significantly expanding its engineering and development capacity.
### Market Perspective
On the announcement day, Samsung Electronics shares traded at 111,500 KRW on the Korean Stock Exchange, reflecting a 0.90% gain. The acquisition underscores Samsung's long-term commitment to autonomous driving and intelligent mobility solutions, positioning the conglomerate as a major player in vehicle safety technology transformation.
Young Sohn, Chairman of HARMAN's Board, emphasized that this strategic integration reinforces the company's leadership position while enabling the development of safer, smarter in-vehicle experiences aligned with industry electrification and automation trends.
