During the Ming Dynasty, entering the palace to become a eunuch was a very popular profession. How popular was it? There were many in the folk, in the Respectful Service Hall, who would first castrate themselves, and then when they went for an interview, they had an even greater advantage. But not everyone who was castrated could enter the palace to become a eunuch, so there were many people on the streets called castrated men. At that time, there were tens of thousands of eunuchs. Eunuchs and castrated men are not the same. Eunuchs, at least, had contact with the heavenly palace. As for castrated men, what kind of qualities did they have? Castrated men could only express loyalty from afar; they couldn't advance to personally show loyalty to their master. Eunuchs, on the other hand, could personally show loyalty to their master. So they could be disillusioned in front of their master, knowing what kind of person the master was. As for castrated men, they could live out the feeling of being a master as a servant. Not everyone can have this kind of awareness. Although they are servants, they can live out the pride of a master, the glory of a master, the feeling of a master. This kind of ease and detachment is not something everyone can achieve.
