Trust Wallet Issues Security Update Following Browser Extension Vulnerability
Source: CryptoNewsNet Original Title: Cryptocurrency Platform Hit by Hacking Attack Issues New Statement Original Link: Trust Wallet, a cryptocurrency wallet application, has released an official update addressing a security vulnerability discovered in version 2.68 of its browser extension.
According to the statement, users of version 2.68 who logged in between December 24-26 by opening the Trust Wallet browser extension were affected by the issue.
The company confirmed that the security breach affected 2,520 wallet addresses and that approximately $8.5 million worth of crypto assets were seized by the attackers. The stolen assets were reportedly linked to 17 different wallet addresses controlled by the attackers.
Trust Wallet announced that it has decided to provide prompt compensation to affected users. In this context, the company stated that it has improved its compensation process and ownership verification procedures, and has begun directly contacting victims who have contacted them in the past few days.
The statement also noted that users who received push notifications via the Trust Wallet mobile app or saw a security warning banner in the browser extension may still be at risk and should take the necessary steps without delay. Affected users were asked to apply through the official support form to be included in the compensation process.
