John Diez Set To Lead Ryder System as Robert Sanchez Steps Into New Role
Ryder System, Inc. ®, a major player in logistics and transportation, has unveiled its leadership transition strategy following board approval. Effective March 31, 2026, John Diez, currently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer, will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer.
This succession marks a significant milestone for the company. Diez will be elected to the board of directors concurrent with his appointment as CEO. His career trajectory within Ryder spans over two decades, demonstrating deep expertise across the organization’s core operations.
Diez’s Track Record and Responsibilities
Since January 1, 2025, Diez has held the position of President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing three critical business units: Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Supply Chain Solutions (SCS), and Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS). Before this role, he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, managing comprehensive financial operations.
Throughout his tenure since 2002, Diez has held leadership positions across multiple divisions. He previously directed Ryder’s fleet management business, handling fleet operations and maintenance strategies, and led the dedicated transportation business unit where he drove substantial revenue expansion and enhanced operational returns.
Robert Sanchez’s Transition
Robert Sanchez, who assumed the CEO position in January 2013 and became board chairman in May 2013, will transition to the role of executive chair. This strategic move ensures organizational continuity and facilitates a smooth handoff of responsibilities during the changeover period.
Background and Career Path
Before joining Ryder, Diez began his professional journey in the audit practice at KPMG LLP, where he developed foundational expertise in financial analysis and business operations—skills that have proven instrumental throughout his career at Ryder.
