Can conservatism save Bitcoin? Industry insiders discuss the philosophy of protocol governance

【Blockchain Rhythm】On December 19th, a well-known industry investor shared profound insights on Bitcoin network governance in an interview.

He pointed out that Bitcoin Core v30 is extremely conservative regarding protocol changes — and this is precisely the right approach. When modifying a global protocol like Bitcoin, caution must come first. Any changes should be carefully considered and must seek broad consensus worldwide. Only when all global participants recognize that a threat (such as quantum computing) truly exists should we initiate a network upgrade.

But reality is often more complex. If opinions within the community are divided — half support, half oppose — then the brakes should be applied. Such decisions cannot be made hastily. He even put forward a sharp view: providing unlimited funds to a group of excellent developers and letting them continuously “improve” Bitcoin might be one of the most effective ways to destroy the network.

In his view, Bitcoin’s value proposition is a monetary protocol. The apparent flaws — lack of rapid iteration, cautious feature addition — are actually its greatest strengths. The mindset of enthusiastically adding new features frequently often damages a well-functioning system. Sometimes, the best way to improve is to do nothing.
