Mark Longo announces JUSTICE: the crypto community is divided over the true intentions
Following the tragic disappearance of P’Nut and Fred, Mark Longo finds himself at the center of a new controversy. By launching a new crypto project, the owner of Pine City Animal Sanctuary faces accusations of opportunism from the PNUT community.
The story that shook the Internet: from tragedy to crypto project
A few weeks ago, the seizure and euthanasia of P’Nut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon by the New York Department of Conservation had sparked a wave of outrage on social media. Mark Longo, the sanctuary owner, found himself at the center of a national debate on the regulation of exotic pets.
However, what followed quickly divided the crypto community. Longo publicly denounced how various industry actors had exploited his personal misfortune. In a video shared on his social accounts, he expressed frustration toward those who had taken advantage of the situation: “You didn’t see that the crypto world exploited my tragedy in every possible way, leaving the sanctuary behind, leaving my family behind.”
The turning point: towards a new token JUSTICE
A few weeks after these accusations, Longo announced he was working on his own project: a token named JUSTICE, designed, he said, to honor the memory of P’Nut and Fred. He stated he had assembled a team of activists and animal rights advocates to develop this blockchain initiative.
This announcement marked a decisive turning point. Longo claimed that JUSTICE would be the only crypto project he would be associated with in the future, thus seeking to directly control the narrative around his deceased animals.
Funds disappear, trust erodes
Problems began to surface quickly. PNUT community members reported that Longo had received around $50,000 in donations and had immediately liquidated them. Screenshots circulating on Telegram showed a private conversation where the user “Squirreldad12” ( allegedly Mark Longo ) had requested financial contributions to obtain rights to use the name and image of P’Nut.
The contradiction was glaring: a few weeks earlier, Longo had been outraged that others profit from his animals. Now, he was himself seeking to monetize their memory. Reactions quickly followed. Several community members pointed out this perceived hypocrisy, claiming that Longo was accusing others of exactly what he was now doing.
Damaged credibility
Comments on social networks reflect a widespread feeling of betrayal. Users noted that no one genuinely cares about the JUSTICE token anymore, that Longo is no longer considered a trustworthy figure. Some even predicted the project’s failure, suggesting he would waste time and resources on an initiative doomed to be forgotten.
P’Nut the gray squirrel had amassed over 500,000 followers on various platforms before his disappearance, becoming a true internet phenomenon. Ironically, this prior notoriety could backfire for Mark Longo, as the association between his name and the JUSTICE project now seems tainted with doubt.
The situation illustrates how transparency and consistency become essential in the crypto space, where trust remains the most valuable resource.
