🎯 Why is a retest a key point in trading?

Abstract generation in progress

A retest is the process of returning quotes to a previously broken resistance or support level. It is one of the most reliable signals for entering a position because significant order volumes are concentrated at these levels.

How Retests Work

When the price breaks through a critical level and then reverses in its direction, it indicates accumulation of supply or demand in that zone. Such zones act as kind of magnets on the chart — they constantly influence the behavior of quotes each time the price approaches them.

It is important to understand: retests are relevant on any timeframe. Whether it’s five-minute, hourly, or daily charts — the principle remains the same. Each significant level has magnetic properties, attracting or repelling the price depending on the market context.

Universality of the Phenomenon

There is not a single chart pattern or figure that does not experience a retest. This is a universal technical analysis phenomenon, manifesting equally regardless of the instrument or the way it occurs.

Practical Application

Waiting for a retest teaches traders one main thing — patience. Instead of entering immediately on a breakout, experienced traders wait for a more favorable moment to open a position. This approach reduces the risk of false breakouts and increases the risk-reward ratio. Although trading on the actual breakout also has its right to exist, using retests provides better control over entries.
