From Hollywood to the Indian harvest: How AI is transforming the global economy
Source: CritpoTendencia Original Title: From Hollywood to India's Harvest: How AI is Transforming the Global Economy Original Link: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic promise but the engine driving global change right now. From rewriting legal frameworks to optimizing industrial production, AI is actively reshaping our present. This week, a series of crucial news stories demonstrated the speed of this transformation and the absolute need to stay updated.
Disney+ adds AI to its iconic characters
Bob Iger, CEO of Disney+, announced that soon, subscribers will be able to create and share short videos generated by AI with Disney characters.
Iger emphasized that the platform will offer a much more interactive experience, allowing users to create and consume content generated by other users, primarily in short formats.
Indeed, the new features will enable subscribers to use generative AI tools to create short videos starring iconic company characters like Darth Vader, Iron Man, Anna, and Elsa.
Indian farmers increase harvests with artificial intelligence
The Indian government has applied artificial intelligence to find effective solutions in agriculture, helping farmers.
The experimental project was carried out in collaboration with the Indian Development Innovation Laboratory, focused on the monsoons, which bring abundant rains and are crucial for farmers.
The forecasting system used a hybrid model that incorporated 125 years of historical rainfall data provided by the Indian Meteorological Department. The forecasts described the local start of the southwest monsoon season. Farmers received this information via SMS in five regional languages. Additionally, the study employed a voice-controlled AI chatbot created to assist farmers.
Lérida Lottery integrates AI into its bets
In Spain, a report prepared by Rosa de Ponent Lotteries, the number 1 agency in Lérida, indicates that 41.6% of Euromillions bets and 42.8% of La Primitiva bets placed in the last year were generated using artificial intelligence.
According to the manager of this Lérida agency, David Masip, the popularity of AI is due to its ability to provide relevant information to players, such as the most frequently drawn numbers or those that have not appeared for the longest time, allowing users to follow personalized criteria in their bets.
Thanks to AI, buyers can use different criteria to choose their numbers, blending statistical and mathematical analysis with buying trends or even personal numerology criteria.
As Masip explains: "The shopping experience becomes much more personal because AI can recommend options related to birth dates or places of residence, adapting to individual preferences."
US Senators seek to block the sale of advanced AI chips to China
A bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill that would prevent the Trump administration from easing restrictions on the sale of artificial intelligence chips to China in the short term.
The SAFE Chips Act, introduced by Republican Senator Pete Ricketts and Democratic Senator Chris Coons, would require the Department of Commerce to reject license applications for the export of advanced US AI chips to China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea for at least 30 months.
" Denying Beijing access to these AI chips is essential for our national security. Codifying the current restrictions imposed by President Trump on chips in Communist China ensures this goal. It will allow American chip companies to continue innovating rapidly and exponentially expand our computing advantage," Ricketts stated.
"While China rushes to reduce our AI lead, we cannot give them the technological keys to our future through advanced semiconductor chips. This bipartisan bill will protect the United States’ computing edge so that the world's latest-generation AI models are developed locally by American companies, and global infrastructure is based on American technology," Coons explained.
Google and Infobae join in a global AI program
Google announced the launch of a new pilot program that integrates generative artificial intelligence to create automated news summaries in Google News. The initiative includes media outlets such as El País, The Guardian, The Washington Post, and Infobae.
According to Google, the goal is to help users obtain context faster before clicking on original content.
The pillars of the program include:
"The purpose of this partnership program is to explore how AI can drive more engaged audiences," Google stated.
We conclude with this reflection from Sundar Pichai: "Artificial Intelligence is advancing faster than anyone of us predicted. This is not a distant future; it is here, rewriting the rules as we speak."
