Crypto artist Beeple releases celebrity robot dogs featuring Musk and others, sold out at $100,000 each
On December 5, renowned American digital visual artist Mike Winkelmann (Beeple) showcased his animal series—flesh-colored robotic dogs—at Art Basel Miami Beach. These robotic dogs wore silicone masks representing celebrities such as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, attracting the attention of numerous art enthusiasts and media outlets. Reportedly, these robotic installations continuously take photographs, recording the images on the blockchain. The artist hopes to reinterpret the world from the perspectives of these celebrities. According to reports, there are a total of 7 celebrity-themed robotic dogs in the series, each purchased by private collectors for $100,000. In an interview, Beeple stated that although the appearance of these robotic dogs may seem bizarre, his original intention was not to offend these celebrities.
Beeple has long been a prominent figure in the art world. In 2021, renowned auction house Christie’s held its first auction of a purely digital artwork in the form of an NFT—Beeple’s “Everydays: The First 5000 Days.” The piece ultimately sold for an astonishing $69.346 million (approximately 500 million RMB), setting a new record for the highest auction price for an NFT work and shaking up the entire art market.
