I've always been following reports from a certain well-known crypto media outlet, and I didn't expect to have the chance this time to join their livestream together with the founder of CELO. The topic we discussed was about the role and positioning of KOLs in the crypto industry, and I was able to share some perspectives from a Chinese point of view.
After a long and in-depth conversation with Rene, I realized there is indeed quite a significant cognitive gap between Chinese and international communities in terms of understanding the KOL group. The operating models for KOLs differ between domestic and international markets, and there are also major misconceptions from upstream players in the industry about this role. Many people simply equate KOLs with paid shilling, but the reality is much more complex. KOLs actually play a much more diverse role in project promotion, community building, and user education, and this value is often overlooked.
This exchange made me realize that the cost of cross-cultural communication in the Web3 world is higher than I imagined, but it's precisely because of these collisions that the industry's collective understanding can move toward greater maturity.
