$BTC #Bitcoin briefly dipped below the level it entered in 2025, wiping out its annual gains during a volatile weekend that surprised many traders.
The decline occurred despite a series of positive news in the industry and the long-awaited reopening of the US government โ factors that many market participants were hoping would stabilize sentiment.
BTC dropped to $93,100 โ about 25% below the historical peak from October. Although Bitcoin quickly recovered to the area around $94,500, the correction indicates the growing divergence between the strong structural developments in the sector and the current price action.
The year began with optimism. President Donald Trump entered the White House with what many called the most pro-crypto administration in U.S. history, bringing rapid regulatory clarity, eased restrictions, and a strong flow of corporate Bitcoin allocations. Spot ETF funds also reported stable net inflows throughout much of the year.
But macro tensions have repeatedly outweighed the positives. Trump's trade battles and the record-long 43-day government shutdown resulted in a series of risk-off periods, during which Bitcoin experienced several double-digit corrections in 2025.
Another pressure on the market comes from sales by long-term holders. Some analysts initially blamed the "OG whales" for stopping the upward momentum, but blockchain firms note that the trend corresponds to a typical late stage of the cycle โ realizing profits, not mass exit.
Nevertheless, a number of analysts remain confident that the broader Bitcoin cycle is intact. Bitwise's Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan believes that the next explosive phase is more likely to unfold in 2026, pointing to a macro environment characterized by currency devaluation and the growing adoption of stablecoins, tokenized assets, and DeFi.
For now, the future trajectory of Bitcoin depends on whether the asset will manage to solidify support in the mid-$90,000 range and shake off the recent wave of macro-volatility โ a reminder that even in a year of strong structural progress, the market can surprise.
