The interest rate mechanism of traditional DeFi lending is actually quite brutal— all funds are mixed in one pool, and no one can tell which money supports which loan. Price signals? Basically smoothed out.
What Morpho does is not simply adjusting the interest rate but breaking down this "one-size-fits-all" signal into multiple dimensions that can be accurately interpreted. What is the result? The flow of funds becomes smarter, pricing becomes more reasonable, and risk sharing becomes clearer.
The core logic is quite straightforward: Morpho transforms interest rate discovery from "global average" to "composable market microstructure". Sounds abstract? In fact, it allows funds to be priced and matched more accurately based on their purpose, duration, and credit rating. There is less implicit loss, and there is also room for institutional-level customization and compliance integration.
**Threefold Decoupling of Interest Rate Formation**
The previous interest rate was a mix of three factors: liquidity supply, risk compensation, and protocol fees. Morpho has separated them:
**Use Layer**: Short-term capital turnover, leveraged trading borrowing, long-term lock-up—different needs correspond to different Intrerest Rate curves. Morpho allows each need to find the most suitable counterpart or market.
**Collateral/Credit Tier**: High-quality collateral is matched with low Intrerest Rate, while low credit or RWA-type assets naturally incur higher costs. The risk premium is no longer a vague average, but is adjusted in real-time based on the quality of the collateral.
The essence of this mechanism is to decentralize pricing power from the protocol level to the micro-level of the market, allowing both supply and demand sides to negotiate and determine the true price.
