The Unsolved Mystery: Inside Nikolai Mushegian's Death and What the Crypto Community Still Doesn't Know
Two years have passed, and one of crypto's most unsettling stories remains shrouded in mystery.
On October 28, 2022, Nikolai Mushegian—MakerDAO co-founder and a key figure in DeFi's early days—was discovered dead on Condado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 29.
Here's where it gets strange: Hours before his body was found, Mushegian posted a series of alarming tweets. He claimed the CIA, Mossad, and a "pedophile elite" were orchestrating human trafficking rings and planned to torture and frame him. Then he disappeared.
What We Know (and What Doesn't Add Up)
Official cause: Accidental drowning. Puerto Rico authorities found a minor laceration on his skull but no other injuries. The beach has a history of dangerous currents and drownings—case closed.
