The x402 protocol has been heating up recently, but do people really understand the logic behind it?
On the surface, x402 addresses the issue of payment efficiency, making on-chain transfers smoother. However, what is truly exciting is the "trust mechanism" behind it – which is the ERC-8004 standard.
In simple terms: x402 is responsible for "whether it can be paid," while ERC-8004 is responsible for "whether it should be trusted." The former is a tool, and the latter is a protocol. Without the constraints of the protocol layer, even the fastest payments are just disordered flows of funds.
Unibase is attempting to combine these two layers of protocol. By adding an identity memory system to AI Agents, they can not only execute transactions but also accumulate reputation and establish a network of relationships. This is the true prototype of the smart economy - not just simple automation, but trustworthy automation.
If this path is successful, the imaginative space for on-chain interactions will be much larger.
