CZ issues a defamation lawsuit notice to Senator Warren regarding rumors of Trump's pardon
Former Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng is considering suing U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren for defamation, as she claims that Zhao Changpeng bribed President Trump in exchange for a pardon.
According to the New York Post report on the 28th (local time), Zhao's former CEO's lawyer, Teresa Goody Gien, stated: “If the content published by Senator Warren on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on October 23 of last year is not corrected, legal action will be taken.”
Senator Warren claimed in the tweet that “CZ admitted to money laundering charges and was sentenced to 4 months in prison.” However, the former CEO Zhao actually pleaded guilty in November 2023 to a charge related to Binance's inadequate anti-money laundering procedures under the Bank Secrecy Act and was sentenced to 4 months in prison in 2024. This matter has become a focal point of political controversy after the “Trump presidential pardon” scandal.
Currently, the tweet has been accompanied by additional explanations added by users to correct the false content. However, Zhao Changpeng's side insists that the content of Senator Warren's tweet is exaggerated and constitutes serious defamation. Based on this claim, Zhao's legal team has begun preparing for subsequent legal responses.
This matter has extended into the cryptocurrency industry at high levels due to President Trump's pardon, further intensifying the contradictions between Washington politics and the crypto industry. It particularly highlights the enormous and sensitive public opinion shock that may arise when important political figures speak out against specific individuals.
