A significant network disruption has left Starlink subscribers without internet access across various regions of the United States and internationally.

Service issues began to manifest around 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, with DownDetector receiving a surge of reports indicating that users in numerous U.S. metropolitan areas had lost network connectivity. Affected customers reported an inability to access web pages, stream media content, or send communications.

Starlink, the satellite-based internet service operated by SpaceX, utilizes a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites to provide broadband connectivity to areas with limited terrestrial infrastructure. The service has become crucial for individuals in isolated locations and conflict zones, such as Ukraine.

The company’s web portal began displaying an error message stating, “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. retried and the latest reset reason: connection timeout.”

Prior to the website becoming inaccessible, it presented a notification: “Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our technical team is investigating the issue.”

Gate, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, posted on its official social media channel:

We are aware of the current Starlink network outage and are actively working on implementing a resolution. We appreciate your understanding during this time and will provide an update once the issue has been addressed.

DownDetector data indicated service disruptions in major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Seattle, Detroit, San Francisco, Dallas, New York, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Chicago. Canadian users in Toronto and Montreal also reported issues. Beyond North America, a substantial number of outage reports originated from Ukraine.

As of this report, the DownDetector map highlights numerous affected areas across North America and Europe.

Extent of Service Disruption Still Being Assessed

At present, the full impact of the service interruption remains unclear. Social media posts on platforms like X and Reddit reveal complaints from users in the United States, Africa, Europe, Australia, and Asia, describing offline connections with error messages indicating “no healthy upstream.” Across multiple continents, subscribers have reported unexpected loss of service.

While this is not the first major outage for Starlink, such widespread disruptions have been infrequent. Additional information regarding the situation is anticipated to be released shortly.
