Why I Ditched My Walmart+ Membership

Abstract generation in progress

I jumped on the Walmart+ bandwagon like many others, lured by promises of convenience and savings. After several months, I've concluded this subscription isn't worth my hard-earned cash. Here's why I canceled - and why you might want to as well.

The Trial Period Showed Me Everything I Needed to Know

My 30-day free trial revealed more about the service than any promotional material could. I barely used it. The $98 annual fee simply doesn't justify occasional usage, especially when free alternatives exist.

The Delivery Tipping Dilemma

While delivery drivers deserve fair compensation, Walmart's approach creates an awkward situation. Though tipping isn't mandatory, drivers often prioritize orders from known tippers. My deliveries frequently arrived late when I tipped modestly. This defeated the purpose of paying for "convenience."

Tech Failures Make Shopping Frustrating

The scan-and-go feature sounds revolutionary until you experience its glitches. Multiple times, I scanned my entire cart only to have the system crash, forcing me to rescan everything at checkout. This wasted more time than it saved.

Delivery Disappointments Abound

Late arrivals, wrong items, and missing products plagued my deliveries. One particularly frustrating incident involved perishable groceries arriving a day late with no communication. The curbside pickup option (which is free) proved more reliable.

The "Perks" Aren't That Perky

The additional benefits - Paramount+ access, fuel discounts, and fast food deals - sound impressive on paper. Yet I found myself rarely using any of them. The fuel discount requires visiting specific stations, the Paramount+ content didn't interest me, and I'm trying to avoid fast food anyway.

When evaluating subscription services, the question shouldn't be "What am I getting?" but rather "Am I actually using what I'm paying for?" In my case, Walmart+ failed this basic test. I'd rather spend that $98 elsewhere.
