How to create your own NFT: My personal experience

robot
Abstract generation in progress

What a drag this NFT thing is! I decided to create one after seeing how some mediocre artists were making millions while I was still eating rice with tuna. Why them and not me? So I dove into this digital world that, honestly, seems a bit like a speculative bubble.

What you need ( and no one tells you clearly )

Before getting into this mess, you need to:

  • A digital work ( or a photo of your cat, which is also worth ).
  • Some crypto to pay the damn fees that drain you.
  • A digital wallet ( that I warn you, if you lose the password, bye-bye money )

Choosing blockchain: where the drama begins

Ethereum was the pioneer, yes, but its fees are a ROBBERY AT GUNPOINT. I paid almost 100 dollars to "mint" an image I made in 5 minutes. Crazy! Better to opt for other networks like BSC that at least don't leave you broke for rent.

Traditional platforms sell you the bike of "decentralization," while they centralize the entire market. Ironic, don’t you think?

My creative process (if it can be called that)

I decided to use a popular marketplace ( I won't name names, but it starts with O and ends with sea). The interface is quite intuitive, but you can still get lost among so many strange terms. I uploaded my "masterpiece", put a description full of words like "revolution", "decentralized" and "future" to seem deep, and chose an absurd price hoping that some bored millionaire would buy it.

When I clicked "create", the window popped up to pay for gas fees was almost the same as what I spend on food in a week. But what can you do! I paid thinking "this is an investment".

The harsh reality

My NFT has been on sale for three months and no one has looked at it. NOT A SINGLE OFFER. Meanwhile, I see pixelated stone collections selling for thousands. The NFT market is like a lottery where only those who already have a name or the first ones to arrive win.

Moreover, transferring NFTs between platforms is another headache. I tried to move my artwork to another marketplace and ended up paying more fees. I don't understand why they say this is the "future of art" when it seems more like the future of headaches.

To conclude (if you have made it this far)

If you want to create an NFT, go ahead, but don't expect to become a millionaire. The ecosystem is saturated and manipulated by whales who move the market at their whim. Yes, the process is technically straightforward, but monetizing it is another story.

If you still want to try it, choose your blockchain wisely, create something truly unique (not another boring monkey collection) and be prepared to spend on promotion. Or better yet, invest that money in something more tangible. Like stocks. Or pizza.
