The economic prosperity of countries is often assessed by the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. This indicator reflects the total value of goods and services produced in a country over a year, divided by the number of residents. Let us consider ten countries with the lowest values of this parameter.

African countries on the list

Burundi ranks first among the poorest countries, with a GDP per capita of approximately 261 US dollars. It is followed by the Central African Republic with an indicator of around 348 US dollars.

The third position is occupied by Malawi, where this figure reaches about 388 US dollars. Madagascar is in fourth place with a GDP per capita of approximately 472 US dollars.

Central African Countries

The Democratic Republic of the Congo ranks fifth with a figure close to 487 US dollars per capita. The sixth place belongs to Mozambique, where the GDP per capita is approximately 506 US dollars.

West African States

Niger ranks seventh with a figure of around 581 US dollars. Liberia occupies the eighth position, where GDP per capita reaches approximately 662 US dollars.

Eastern African countries and island states

Eritrea is in ninth place with a figure close to 797 US dollars per capita. Closing the top ten are the Comoros, where GDP per capita is approximately 1382 US dollars.
