The best cryptocurrency wallets to protect your digital assets

Look, choosing a wallet for your cryptos is not something trivial. After trying several ( and losing some coins in the process ), I'll tell you which options actually work in 2024.

Wallets You Must Know NOW

If you don't have time to read everything, these are the ones that are really worth it:

  • For beginners starting: Coinbase Wallet
  • If you are a fan of Ethereum: MetaMask (no one surpasses it for this)
  • For mobile use: Trust Wallet
  • The best experience on computer: Exodus
  • If you are into DeFi: Crypto.com DeFi Wallet
  • The safest for day to day: ZenGo
  • For long-term storage: Ledger Nano S Plus
  • Hardware for beginners: KeepKey
  • The most resilient: Ellipal Titan
  • Perfect balance: SafePal

Hot wallets: fast but risky

Hot wallets are like carrying cash in a physical wallet - convenient but vulnerable. They are perfect if:

  • You buy and sell constantly - because you need quick access
  • You use dApps - to connect without hassle
  • You collect NFTs - to view and transfer easily

The best part about them is that you can access your coins instantly from anywhere. They are super easy to use and compatible with almost everything.

But be careful, they are always connected to the internet, which makes them vulnerable. How many hackers are waiting for you to make a mistake! And if you lose internet, you are left with nothing you can do.

Cold wallets: security above all

Cold wallets are another level. They keep your keys completely offline. There's no way to hack them remotely; someone would have to physically steal them! Some even resist shocks and water.

Of course, they are less practical - you have to connect them for each operation. And they are not cheap, they cost between 50 and 200 dollars. Moreover, setting them up can be a hassle if you don't understand the technology.

Who should use them? Anyone with significant amounts or who plans to hodl long-term. I don't keep more than 1000 dollars in hot wallets, the rest all in hardware.

Coinbase Wallet: perfect for beginners

I have recommended it to many friends who are starting out. Its design is so intuitive that even my father was able to set it up. The best part is that it connects to the exchange easily, although lately it seems to me that the fees are a bit high.

It has its own browser for dApps and displays your NFTs perfectly. However, it annoys me that some advanced features are limited.

MetaMask: the king of the Ethereum ecosystem

MetaMask is my favorite when I operate on Ethereum. I have it installed both on Chrome and on my mobile. Its function to swap tokens directly is great, although sometimes the fees seem excessive to me.

The only downside is that it is very limited for Bitcoin. If you are a pure bitcoiner, look for another option.

Trust Wallet: the best mobile experience

When I'm away from home, Trust Wallet is my choice. Its mobile interface is incredibly smooth. And I love that you can stake directly from the app - I've been passively earning with BNB there for months.

The QR scanning function for payments is extremely fast. However, I miss having more options on desktop.

Exodus: beauty and functionality on desktop

Exodus has the most beautiful design of all, without a doubt. Its panel for tracking your portfolio is addictive - I spend hours looking at the graphs. The integration with Trezor is perfect.

I only have one major complaint: it does not have native 2FA authentication. This should be mandatory in 2024.

The Reality of Cold Wallets

My Ledger Nano S Plus has been with me for three years. It has survived drops, an accidental splash, and is still working perfectly. I use it to store 80% of my cryptos.

But let's be honest: it's a hassle to take it out and plug it in every time I want to move funds. Many times I end up using hot wallets out of sheer laziness, even though I know I shouldn't.

And the recovery phrases... what a stress! I have mine saved in three different places just in case. I lost funds once for losing that damn word list and I don't intend to make the same mistake.

What nobody tells you about security

True security does not come just from the wallet you choose, but from how you use it. I have seen people with Ledgers lose everything for storing their recovery phrases in Google Drive. Crazy!

My advice: use multiple wallets. I have a Trust Wallet for daily transactions, Exodus at home, and serious savings in a Ledger. Diversifying saves you from disasters.

And never, NEVER share your private keys with anyone. If someone asks for your recovery phrase, it's a scam. Even legitimate technical support will not ask you for this.

The best wallet is the one that fits YOUR needs - there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Think about your habits and choose accordingly. And remember: if you don't have your keys, they are not your coins.
