Ledger released an offline recovery key for Flex and Stax wallets.

The announcement states that the physical key allows access to digital assets without an internet connection. To do this, you need to place a smart card with an NFC module against the device and enter the PIN code.

Ledger stated that the solution is designed as an alternative and complement to the traditional form of recovering cryptocurrency wallet data using a 24-word seed phrase, but which can cause users of the devices problems due to the complexity of its storage.

The Recovery Key uses Secure Element technology, similar to that used in Ledger's main devices. The application code and technical documentation are hosted in the GitHub repository.

The company stated that creating a physical recovery key is not a mandatory feature and can only be initiated at the wallet owner's discretion. At the same time, activating the key will only be possible with confirmation on their main Ledger device. Each user can create multiple such keys.

Earlier, the technical director of hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger, Charles Guillemet (, announced that support for the Nano S model will be discontinued.
