Democratic Party lawmakers criticize Trump's cryptocurrency dinner party; the president actually attends.
Democratic lawmakers demanded the release of the participant list for a dinner inviting the top 220 holders of President Trump’s meme coin, scheduled for Thursday in U.S. time. Anti-cryptocurrency Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized in a press conference, “The American people do not know who is buying access to the President and what they are getting in return.”
The cost of attending the dinner party has been reported to range from $55,000 to $37.7 million, and cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun has also expressed his intention to participate. Congressman Blumenauer criticized, “President Trump is selling access and selling out the United States to foreign powers,” pointing out the national security risks.
Additionally, Congresswoman Maxine Waters introduced a bill on the same day to regulate the President’s involvement in cryptocurrency, calling for an end to “cryptocurrency corruption.” The Congresswoman warned that “Russia, China, and North Korea may be purchasing Trump’s cryptocurrency to gain favors from the White House.”
On the other hand, driven by expectations for the dinner party, the price of Trump Coin rose by 10% on the 23rd, recording a high of $15.8, the highest in about four weeks, but subsequently fell back and lost its gains.
The White House spokesperson explained regarding the dinner that “the president is using personal time to attend and it is unrelated to the White House,” and clearly stated that no tours of the White House will be offered. Experts analyze that it is highly likely that the majority of participants are not U.S. citizens.
Moreover, President Trump is actually attending the dinner.
