South Korean Constitutional Court rejects delay in trial of impeachment against Yin Xiyue
On January 16, Jinshi Data News reported that the Constitutional Court of South Korea today (January 16) stated that it does not accept the application from the side of Yin Xiyue to postpone the impeachment trial. The impeachment trial of South Korean President Yin Xiyue, originally scheduled for this afternoon, will proceed as planned. On January 15, Yin Xiyue’s legal team submitted an application to the Constitutional Court of South Korea requesting a postponement of the second debate on the impeachment case of Yin Xiyue, which was scheduled for the afternoon of the 16th. Yin Xiyue’s legal team said that due to the execution of the arrest warrant against Yin Xiyue, Yin Xiyue, who is currently under investigation by the Korean public prosecutor’s office, cannot attend the court debate, and the lawyer participating in the investigation of Yin Xiyue is also unable to attend. According to South Korean law, if the party fails to attend the second formal debate, the Constitutional Court can proceed with the trial in absentia.
